Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $15,000,000 for an infrastructure project in Anoka. The project will construct a replacement of the bridge over Rum River on U.S. Highway 10 as well as the replacement of an adjacent 4th Avenue bridge over U.S. Highway 10. The project also includes a reconfiguration of the U.S. Highway 10, Minnesota Highway 47, and U.S. 169 Interchange.

"I am once again grateful to Secretary Chao and the Department of Transportation for their attention and investment in Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District,” said Congressman Tom Emmer. “After they already invested $40 million dollars to improve Highway 10, they continue to show their commitment to infrastructure development with another $15 million for the Rum River Bridge Project."

Emmer continued, “Highway 10 serves many Minnesotans in the Sixth Congressional District and beyond. This highway has long-needed safety and infrastructure updates. With this investment from the Administration, we will be able to improve safety, mobility, efficiency, and economic competitiveness for commuters and businesses in the region. Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation has shown continued dedication to investments in our transportation networks."

Overall, the Department of Transportation announced the allocation of more than $1 billion dollars for the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Discretionary Grant program.

"This Administration is making significant investments in infrastructure, and this $1 billion in BUILD grants will repair, rebuild, and revitalize transportation systems across America,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.

"MnDOT is grateful that the USDOT has recognized the importance of completing these projects,” said MnDOT Commissioner Margaret Anderson Kelliher. “We’ve taken an ‘all of the above’ approach to funding the final expansion of Highway 14 between New Ulm and Nicollet, and with the long-time support of local advocates and allies and this new federal support, we will get this project done and – most importantly – save lives. The Hwy 10 Rum River Bridge replacement in Anoka will improve mobility, safety and pedestrian access and the BUILD grant funding will ensure we’re able to design the area to address future traffic projections and other challenges."
