Congressional Broadcasters Caucus

Background

The Congressional Broadcasters Caucus was founded in the 116th Congress by Representative Tom Emmer (MN-06) and Representative Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02).

The Congressional Broadcasters Caucus is a bipartisan group of Members of Congress that serve as a resource to educate other Congressional Members about broadcast-related issues and the importance of local radio and television stations to tens of millions of Americans. The mission of the Caucus is focused on discussing and solving issues of importance to the broadcast community, specifically local broadcast radio and television stations, as well as other forms of broadcast journalism.

During significant weather events, broadcasters convey important safety information that we rely upon to seek shelter and avoid hazardous areas. During the big game, broadcasters provide statistics, historical context, and play-by-play analysis as we cheer on our favorite teams and players week in and week out. And during the political cycle, we tune in as broadcasters provide every ballot cast. Our broadcast community uses the airways to keep our country and our economy moving forward.

Broadcasters also have a rich history of representation within the halls of Congress and throughout the executive branch. Nearly two-dozen current members of Congress have a background in broadcast, not to mention countless others who have served in prior terms.
