Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Emmer joined the rest of the Minnesota Republican delegation in a letter to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemning his decision not to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on deportations of illegal immigrants.
The letter reads (in part): “Just last year, ICE apprehended a known al-Shabaab terrorist in your city. This terrorist was an illegal immigrant who broke the law to enter our country during the Biden-Harris border crisis in March 2023. Last month, ICE arrested three illegal immigrants who are child sex predators in your neighbor city of Saint Paul. Your statements on January 28, 2025, threaten the ability of ICE to remove such dangerous criminals from our streets.
“ICE has made it clear that it is targeting public safety threats. Your city and your constituents deserve to be protected from such threats, and we urge you to prioritize their needs over those of criminals and terrorists.”

Background:
Under Border Czar Tom Homan and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, ICE has begun conducting targeted deportations of illegal immigrants. By focusing on criminals who are dangers to public safety, the Trump administration is ensuring the most sinister beneficiaries of former President Biden’s border crisis are removed from our streets as soon as possible.
