Otsego, M.N. – On Friday, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) toured St. Michael-Albertville High School with District 885 Superintendent Dr. Ann-Marie Foucault. The tour, which was also attended by St. Michael-Albertville High School Principal John Reeves and Activities Director Keith Cornell, was focused on the school’s career and technical education and adaptive sports offerings.

Emmer said, “We are continually impressed by the hard work of Sixth District educators, and it was a pleasure to see the exciting programs being offered to students at St. Michael-Albertville High School.”

“Thank you to Superintendent Foucault, Principal Reeves, and Activities Director Cornell for opening up the school to us, and for all your efforts on behalf of our students,” Emmer concluded.

Students attending St. Michael-Albertville High School can receive technical school credit for courses in subjects like computer applications, entrepreneurship and culinary essentials. They also have access to sports that are modified for students with disabilities known as adaptive sports. St. Michael-Albertville offers adaptive soccer, floor hockey, bowling and softball.

Background:

In Congress, Emmer has been an advocate for both technical education and all types of youth sports.

Last year, Emmer advocated for full funding for Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act programs, which provide career and technical education to America’s youth and young adults. Thanks in part to his effort, these programs received $1.43 billion in funding during the 2023 fiscal year.

Additionally, Emmer served as a member of the Congressional Youth Sports Caucus during the 117th Congress.
