Washington, D.C.— This week, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced initiatives to defend Americans’ First Amendment rights.
Emmer said, “The Biden Administration has no business policing our free speech. We cannot allow Washington bureaucrats to become the arbiters of our precious First Amendment liberties.”
Among his efforts to counter the Biden Administration’s Disinformation Governance Board, Congressman Emmer has:
- Co-sponsored the Protecting Free Speech Act led by Representative Lauren Boebert (CO-03) to disband the board and the use of government funds from being spent on anything similar.
- Co-signed a letter led by Representative Scott Franklin (FL-15) to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas questioning the legal authority of the Biden Administration to establish the board.
Background:
On April 27, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before Congress that his department is creating a ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ to fight “misinformation” ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. The board’s director, Nina Jankowicz, has stated that the national security threat posed by disinformation extends to “gendered and sexualized disinformation.”
