Emmer said, “Our officers are often the first to interact with survivors. We must ensure they have sufficient training and resources to help those who have experienced a major traumatic event like sexual assault.”
Emmer sent a letter to Representatives Matt Cartwright (PA-08) and Robert Aderholt (AL-04) urging them to support implementation of the Abby Honold Act, which was signed into law in March.
The Abby Honold Act is named after a former University of Minnesota student and sexual assault survivor who has performed inspiring work to increase awareness of trauma-informed care techniques.
The bill was co-led by Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) in the House. Companion legislation in the Senate was led by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and John Cornyn (R-TX).
The letter is available in its entirety here.
