Washington, D.C. – This week, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) supported an amendment in the House Financial Services Committee offered by Representative Andy Barr (KY-06) to ensure that government spending is allocated by evidence of need as it relates to housing. Specifically, Rep. Barr’s U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness Amendment requires the U.S. Interagency Council on Homeless to un-censor previously hidden housing reports, analysis, and data before spending any taxpayer money allocated for the program.

“I’d like to strike the last word, please. Thank you.

The data has come in. The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness reported that the government’s exclusive reliance on the Housing First model is ineffective. It obviously would come as no surprise that after Biden took office, the Administration attempted to hide the findings that prove its ineffectiveness by removing this report from the Council’s website. 
 
The Democrats are certainly not new to glossing over information that points to inefficiencies in government. But regardless, the facts are out there. The underlying bill here allocates $5 million to the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. Why should they be able to censor information and spend money like the facts don’t exist?

I’m proud to support Congressman Barr’s amendment to require the Director of the Council to restore public access of all reports previously published on their website BEFORE they can spend any money appropriated in this bill. We must be appropriate stewards with taxpayer dollars and make sure any government action is backed by evidence.”
