Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced a $245,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant from the National Park Service for the development of a park in St. Francis, Minnesota.

"Land and Water Conservation Fund awards are frequently a prime example of a local, state, and federal partnership to improve and maintain our state’s beauty. LWCF funds are determined at the local level and supported by a state process that picks worthy projects. These important projects demonstrate that we can be responsible stewards of the land, while ensuring our resources support our children’s economic future,” said Emmer. 

"I am proud to announce this funding to construct a new community space for residents of Anoka County. I am grateful to the National Park Service for this investment in our community and the conservation of our state’s parks," Emmer concluded.

The LWCF State & Local Assistance Program issues matching grants for local and state park projects outside national park boundaries. The National Park Service has provided more than 40,000 LWCF grants to states and local communities since 1965. 

Specifically, these funds will contribute to the development of Siwek Park in St. Francis, Minnesota, located in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District. The City of St. Francis, through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will construct a playground area, shade structure, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-accessible loop trail, basketball court, gaga ball pit, multi-use field, parking lot, and install lighting and site furniture.
