Washington, D.C. - Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the St. Cloud Regional Airport a grant of $168,606. The funds are enhanced by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and will go towards several projects to improve safety at the facility.

Specifically, the funds will support the acquisition of aircraft rescue and fire fighting safety equipment, rehabilitate an existing contract tower, update sections of the airport to meet hazard protection requirements, and reconstruct 4,100 feet of existing wildlife fencing to enhance safe airfield operations. In May, Emmer also announced more than a million dollars for infrastructure projects at the airport.

"The St. Cloud area is a hub for Central Minnesotans, and the St. Cloud Regional Airport is part of what makes that a reality. These needed updates will improve safety and enhance the services provided by the airport.” said Emmer. "I am grateful for U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao for making these important investments. These are the kinds of projects our nation needs, not the unnecessarily partisan infrastructure package that passed just yesterday in the House. Americans deserve prioritized updates to the critical infrastructure they rely on, including roads, bridges, airports, and other essential means of traversing our great state.”

Representative Emmer is the author of the National Intersection and Interchange Safety Construction Program Act, and has made several recent announcements of federally funded infrastructure investments in Minnesota.
