Washington, D.C. – Following President Trump’s State of the Union address, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) released the following statement:

“Tonight, I heard an important message from President Donald Trump. Our country is moving forward. Together, we can share in the optimism and growth that America is experiencing. We are in position to lead once again."

"In Minnesota, unemployment has fallen to 3.3 percent, and more than 58,000 jobs have been created for Minnesotans since the start of this Administration. Our economy is booming, and with newly negotiated trade deals and reduced regulations, we have created a foundation for Americans to succeed and prosper."

"However, we still have work to do to further protect American workers and improve America's infrastructure. We must address the rising costs of health care and prescription drugs, while continuing to foster innovation and support America's leading standard of health care. Congress needs to support families with better access to affordable childcare, school choice and paid family leave."

"Our focus should remain on ensuring our men and women in uniform receive the support and care they deserve, and we need to finally address our broken immigration system. I am committed to finding solutions to the problems facing Americans and I look forward to the opportunity to show the American people and the rest of the world why the United States of America is both unified and strong."

Rep. Emmer was proud to have Lt. Col Brian Winter of the Minnesota National Guard accompany him to the State of the Union Address. For nearly three decades, Lt Col Winter has defended our freedoms as a part of the Minnesota Air National Guard, including his service during Operation Noble Eagle, which occurred one week after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
