Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) issued the following announcement to remind Minnesota's agriculture community of important sign-up deadlines related to the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program and the second round of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). Producers must sign up for either program by December 11, 2020.
"I supported the 2018 Farm Bill because of important programs like the DMC, and funding for the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network (FRSAN) from my STRESS Act, which allocated mental health resources to our agriculture communities. I hope dairy producers will take advantage of the assurances the DMC program offers during these uncertain times," said Emmer.
The DMC program, created by the 2018 Farm Bill, offers dairy farmers market protection when the difference between the milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the farmer. Emmer continued, "Our agriculture community worked extremely hard to keep the supply chain moving and produce for the American people. However, losses were incurred by many farm operations. For those who have suffered losses, the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program has launched a second round of this vital assistance."
President Donald J. Trump and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue expanded CFAP after Congress authorized funding for the program in the CARES Act, which Congressman Emmer supported. CFAP 2 will provide producers with financial assistance to offset the losses incurred due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Emmer concluded, "Our farmers and agriculture producers deserve this critical assistance. The COVID-19 outbreak has been a difficult time for all Americans, but for this industry and way of life, it has been devastating. I encourage our agriculture producers to apply and to connect with your local Farm Service Agency for guidance."
