Grants awarded for Anoka County and St. Paul will help provide affordable housing in Minnesota and expand economic opportunities to low- and middle income- families

St. Paul is receiving $6,764,245 in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Anoka County is receiving $1,594,873 of CDBG, St. Paul is receiving $578,890 in Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), and St. Paul is receiving $1,748,058 in HOME grants 

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) along with Representatives Tom Emmer (R-MN-06) and Betty McCollum (D-MN-04) announced $10,686,066 in Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Grants for Anoka County and St. Paul. St. Paul is receiving $6,764,245 in funding through the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which help localities provide suitable living and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income people. Anoka County is receiving $1,594,873 in CDBG funding, and St. Paul is receiving $578,890 in funding through Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), which allow localities to help people regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a crisis or homelessness. Additionally, St. Paul is receiving $1,748,058 in funding through a HOME Investment Partnerships Program grant, which helps expand the supply of affordable and decent housing to low- and very low –income families.

“Investing in affordable housing strengthens our entire state,” Klobuchar said. “The availability of affordable housing is an essential issue for families. These grants will help ensure communities in Anoka County and St. Paul build and maintain reliable, affordable housing options for residents, and provide relief to Minnesotans who are still facing difficulty.”

“Without access to affordable housing, it can be difficult to maintain financial stability, succeed in school, and sustain a healthy life. Yet, housing options in Minnesota are becoming increasingly expensive and limited,” said Sen. Smith, a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. “These investments in affordable housing solutions will give more Minnesota families the chance to thrive in their communities.”

“Minnesotans deserve the opportunity to access affordable and sustainable housing.” Emmer said. “This significant investment by the Department of Housing and Urban Development shows their dedication to helping underserved Americans, and I am glad to see this investment in Anoka County to provide Sixth District residents with economic opportunities and reliable housing options.”

“In order for our children to excel in school, and for their parents and others to hold down a steady job and contribute to our communities, all Americans must have access to safe, affordable housing,” McCollum said. “Unfortunately, too many Minnesotans struggle to find stable and affordable housing. These ESG and HOME dollars will directly help end the housing shortage in St. Paul.”
