Washington, D.C.— Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced his selection of the photograph Freedom on a Friday Night by Matthew Scherber as the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition.

Emmer said, “We are continually impressed by the promise shown by  our young artists in the Sixth District. The Congressional Art Competition is a wonderful tradition that encourages and showcases the talent we have across the country.

“Matthew, congratulations on this well-deserved honor!” Emmer concluded.

Freedom on a Friday Night by Matthew Scherber

Matthew Scherber is a photographer and a junior at Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Minnesota. He is the son of Jason and Deborah Scherber and an art student of Erika Clifton. Prior to winning the 2022 competition, he took home silver and bronze in the 2021 and 2020 Congressional Art Competitions, respectively.

Background:

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual competition for high school students across the United States. The winner from each district wins the chance to travel to Washington D.C. to visit with their Representative and see their artwork displayed in the Halls of Congress.
