Washington, D.C. - Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) issued the following statement applauding the Department of Transportation's Rural Opportunities to Use Transportation for Economic Success (ROUTES) initiative to address rural transportation needs.

“Every corner of the country deserves to have their voice heard when it comes to federal investment in our roads, bridges, and rail lines. There are dozens of communities around the Sixth Congressional District and throughout Minnesota that are in need of resources to rebuild their transportation infrastructure, and I am pleased Secretary Chao has taken the initiative and put forward this request for information. All too often we see federal funding disparities develop between urban and rural infrastructure development. I am hopeful that this initiative will ultimately provide improved opportunity to rural communities around the country and right here in Minnesota.” said Emmer.

The ROUTES initiative is the Department of Transportation's effort to prioritize rural infrastructure development. The Department of Transportation has issued a request for information on transportation needs throughout rural America. The deadline for comment has been extended to January 27, 2020.

Emmer concluded, "This administration listens, and wants to hear from you. I encourage those throughout the Sixth Congressional District to share their experiences, the needs they have, and the shortage of resources they've faced."
