Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) announced that Minnesota Speaker of the House Lisa Demuth (R-Cold Spring), along with hockey legends Buzz Schneider and Rob McClanahan, will join him as guests at President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress on Tuesday.
Speaker Demuth, who has served in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2019, was elected Speaker on February 6, 2025. She spearheaded the successful 2024 effort to end the DFL trifecta and restore balance in St. Paul, and her attendance highlights the significant role she plays in advancing our state and party’s legislative agenda. Speaker Demuth was also recently named Minnesota Woman of the Year by USA Today.
Schneider and McClanahan, both proud Minnesota natives and gold medalists from the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, are celebrated for their pivotal roles in the team’s legendary “Miracle on Ice” victory over the Soviet Union – an achievement that continues to inspire generations of Americans. In 2003, they were inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
“I am excited to welcome Minnesota Speaker of the House Lisa Demuth, and hockey legends Buzz Schneider and Rob McClanahan, to the Capitol tomorrow for President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress,” said Whip Emmer. “Whether through leadership in our state or unforgettable contributions to one of the most iconic moments in sports history, these individuals represent the best of Minnesota and the American spirit.”
“I'm honored to attend President Trump's Joint Address to Congress,” said Speaker Demuth. “This is an important opportunity to hear directly from the President and represent the voices of Minnesotans who want a government that is accountable, fiscally responsible, and focused on real solutions. I look forward to hearing his vision for the future.”
“I am grateful to Congressman Emmer for inviting me to the President’s Joint Address, especially at such a pivotal moment in our nation's history,” said Buzz Schneider. “It is a privilege to represent the State of Hockey and to celebrate the evening with those who share with me in optimism and hope for our country’s future.”
“I am honored to be invited to the President’s Joint Address by my fellow Minnesotan, Congressman Emmer,” said Rob McClanahan. “I am proud to be in our nation’s capital to represent the values of perseverance, patriotism, and teamwork that have always been at the heart of Minnesota, America, and God’s sport.”
