Becker, M.N. – Yesterday, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) visited Northern Metals Recycling, an industry-leading metal and scrap metal recycling company. In 2019, Northern Metals transferred its recycling operation to a new facility in Becker.

Emmer also met with Northern Metals Chief Operations Officer Scott Helberg to discuss the company’s compliance efforts.

“Northern Metals is a one-of-a-kind facility providing good-paying jobs to the Sixth District,” Emmer said. “We welcome the opportunity to learn more about the company’s work and hear how we can support innovation at the federal level."

“We sincerely appreciate Congressman Emmer taking the time to visit our flagship recycling facility in Becker," said Scott Helberg, Chief Operating Officer of Northern Metal Recycling.  "As the only fully enclosed shredder in Minnesota that utilizes state of the art pollution control technology to curb emissions of hazardous air pollutants, Northern Metals is the industry leader in environmental compliance.  Congressman Emmer is a tremendous advocate for Minnesota businesses like ours and understands the critical role that recycling plays in economic development and sustainability."

As a startup company, Northern Metals is working to develop metal shredding best practices and industry standards. The company has continually advocated for industry environmental standards at the state and federal level.
