Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Emmer (MN-06) issued the following statement regarding passage of the Justice in Policing Act: 

“It’s especially disappointing to see the House miss an opportunity to provide transparency and accountability within our law enforcement community on the one-month anniversary of George Floyd’s murder. This should not be a partisan issue. The House needs to seriously consider the hard work and experience of Senator Tim Scott and Representative Pete Stauber rather than shutting them out. In doing so, today’s bill fails to bring America together at a time when we are united in pursuing justice for George Floyd, while also failing to support the thousands of men and women in uniform who hold themselves and their peers to the highest standards of professionalism every day. 

Today’s vote cannot be the end of our work to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they protect. Minnesota-inspired initiatives like my Community Outpost (COP) Outreach and Engagement Act must be allowed to be part of the discussion as we work towards a future where everyone feels safe and secure in their community. Everyone deserves a voice in this process, at every level of government. Without them, we will never be able to address these failures and deliver a safer, more unified country for future generations."
