Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Tom Emmer celebrated with St. Cloud resident Becky Carlson at the Pentagon as she received the Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award from the U.S. Air Force for her work with her non-profit organization Becky’s Troop Care Packages.

“Becky Carlson has been a friend to our office for years, and she has never wavered in her support for our brave service members. We are proud of Becky’s work to support our men and women in uniform and congratulate her on earning this impressive award,” Congressman Emmer said.

“What began as a way to pay tribute to my brother who passed away during the Vietnam War has grown into an organization that has touched the lives of thousands of service members. I was honored to have been selected for the prestigious Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award and would like to thank Congressman Tom Emmer for joining us to celebrate this occasion,” Becky Carlson, Founder of Becky’s Troop Care Packages said.

The Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional patriotism and service to members of the U.S. Armed Forces or their families.

Becky started Becky’s Troop Care Packages to honor her brother who passed away while serving in the Vietnam War. Becky, along with volunteers and supporters of her non-profit organization, have been sending care packages to active-duty service members overseas since 2003. Since then, her organization has delivered thousands of care packages filled with snacks, magazines and personal letters from family, friends, and volunteers.
