Emmer, Stauber, Fischbach, and Finstad Resume Nominations Committee to Consider Applicants for District Judge

Thursday, November 20, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06), along with Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08), Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), and Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) announced that a nominations committee will reconvene to interview and recommend candidates to President Trump for the United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. This comes after Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz of the District of Minnesota announced he will take semi-retired status next summer.

In November 2024, Congressman Emmer led the Minnesota Republican delegation in forming a nominations committee to assist in making recommendations to President Trump for U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshal, and other vacancies that may arise in Minnesota. In May, one of the committee's recommendations, Minneapolis attorney Daniel N. Rosen, was nominated by President Trump to be the next U.S. Attorney for Minnesota. In October, the U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment as U.S. Attorney for Minnesota.

“Our committee’s members are some of Minnesota’s sharpest legal minds with a wealth of experience and expertise. We are confident in their ability to recommend individuals who will uphold the rule of law and who share our judicial philosophy. We are eager to review the committee’s work and to provide President Trump with names of the best and brightest public servants,” the lawmakers said.

The Committee will again be chaired by the Honorable G. Barry Anderson, former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice.

Returning Committee members include:

  • John Hinderaker, President of the Center of the American Experiment
  • Allie Howell, Trial and Appellate Counsel at the Upper Midwest Law Center
  • Tad Jude, former judge in Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District

New Committee members include:

  • Robin N. Kelleher, Board Member at the Upper Midwest Law Center and the Center of the American Experiment
  • Kevin M. Magnuson, Washington County Attorney
  • Charles E. Spevacek, Partner at Meagher & Geer

Interested applicants for the United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota may email MNnomscommittee@mail.house.gov with a resume, letter of interest, and references by December 19, 2025. Should another nominations committee be created in the U.S. House or Senate, we encourage applicants to apply to all congressional nomination committees to ensure fair and thorough consideration.
