Emmer, Minnesota Republican Delegation Demand that Walz Comply with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
Tuesday, March 3, 2026
WASHINGTON – Last week, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) joined Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01), Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08), and Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) in demanding Governor Tim Walz comply with requests from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding widespread fraud within Minnesota’s Medicaid program, which is now jeopardizing the state’s Medicaid funding.
“Governor Walz has repeatedly failed to address and stop the fraud in our state,” said Emmer. “Now, Medicaid dollars are in jeopardy because of his negligence. It’s high time for the Walz administration to comply with CMS and protect Minnesotans’ access to health care.”
Background
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has attempted to work with the Walz administration to address the potential $9 billion in fraud within Minnesota’s Medicaid program. On December 31, 2025, Minnesota sent CMS an insufficient corrective action plan, which was too reliant on future and temporary measures and did not do enough to immediately address the current noncompliance within the state.
As a result of this, CMS has halted $259 million of federal Medicaid dollars for Minnesota. Funding will be reinstated when Minnesota submits a sufficient corrective action plan. CMS is asking for a corrective action plan that will implement concrete actions to stop the waste, fraud, and abuse in Minnesota’s Medicaid program.
