Highway 10 and County Highway 11 Railroad Crossing Improvement Project

Funding Requested: $5,000,000

Total Project Cost: $59,000,000

Project Summary:

This project will complete the final design and property acquisition for the construction of a grade separation of County Highway 11, crossing the BNSF railway and Highway 10 in Becker Township. The project, a high priority for Sherburne County, Becker Township, MNDOT, and BNSF, will address known safety and mobility concerns at an at-grade intersection and BNSF rail crossing, documented in several past planning efforts, by constructing a grade-separated interchange. It is expected to reduce the risk of crashes at the crossing, improve mobility during peak travel hours, and promote economic growth.

Background Information:

The intersection serves daily commuters, tourists, and freight haulers. Today, the skewed, four-legged, signalized intersection faces daily congestion and a statistically elevated crash rate. This is largely due to the signal and frequent trains paralleling Highway 10, that create backups and safety concerns impacting the broader transportation network.
