Community Project Funding: I-94 Expansion

Funding Requested: $3,000,000

Value to the Taxpayer:

The completion of lane expansion from Rogers to St. Michael has already resulted in a 55% reduction in total travel time. Strategic improvements are necessary to ensure that the enhancements to key regional connections are made possible for those living near or traveling through the I-94 West Corridor.

Project Summary:

This is a westbound three-lane section expansion from CSAH 37 to MnROAD, including reconstructing/widening the CSAH 19 Westbound bridge. This project is one of the last steps in completing the six-lane freeway expansion west of the Twin Cities. This project will continue lane continuity between projects currently in construction east of Albertville and west of Monticello scheduled for completion in the fall of 2022.

Background:

  • The capacity expansion projects and additional transportation infrastructure upgrades along the corridor are crucial for attracting needed economic development, resulting in economic growth and local tax benefits.
  • This project will also increase safety, as crash and severity rates along the corridor are higher than the statewide average, and the segment averages 1.4 accidents per day.
