City of Sartell Watershed Flood Mitigation

Funding Requested: $7,000,000

Total Project Cost: $18,533,000

Project Summary:

The City of Sartell has experienced multiple flooding events in the past three years that have resulted in property damage to residential homes within the North Central Watab Watershed District. The City completed a full feasibility study of the complete watershed to understand the proper flood mitigation to ensure mitigation, which resulted in the recommendation of redirection of water out of Sartell and directly to the Mississippi River. This creates a permanent solution for our residents and community and this project addresses that solution.

Background Information:

The project provides flood and traffic mitigation solutions that are permanent and will result in elimination of continued residential impacts to our neighborhoods. Combination of these projects will save taxpayers $4M due to the completion at the same time, whereas doing them separately will result in the need to tear out some of the work initially completed and performing reconstruction. The route of the flood mitigation north out of Sartell is the same exact route as the proposed route for new roadway 15th ST N. In addition, it will result in taxpayers never having to fund the restoration of property impacted from flooding along this watershed, which affects everyone in Sartell in one way or another.
