Funding Requested: $7,000,000
Total Project Cost: $118,000,000
Project Summary:
The City of Sartell current infrastructure consists of only one force main for sanitary sewer, which brings all biproducts to the City of St. Cloud for treatment. This force main has only 400,000 gallons per day in available capacity. With additional development taking place in Sartell, which will put pressure on this system, there will no longer be capacity remaining for other investments to construct facilities or expand the housing base. This request is for the construction of an additional sanitary sewer force main, routed to St. Cloud.
Background Information:
The new force main will provide an additional 650,000 gallons per day in capacity for the sanitary sewer system in Sartell. This will allow not only Niron Magnetics Phase 1 construction, but also their Phases 2 and 3, which we desire to keep located in Minnesota as it will bring close to 850 jobs and additional tax base. It will also create redundancy in the Sartell sanitary sewer system, which is currently reliant on only one force main. As pressures on the system increase with additional investments, it will be critical to have redundancy and avoid any single point of failure, which could impact business operations for businesses and property owners in Sartell. The long-term benefits including increased local spending, workforce development, and a competitive edge in a high-growth industry far outweigh the initial public investment, ensuring a strong return for taxpayers.
