City of Howard Lake Water Treatment Project
Funding Requested: $15,000,000
Total Project Cost: $30,000,000
Project Summary:
The City of Howard Lake is looking to construct and replace the current water treatment facility. The proposed water treatment plant project will ensure a safe, reliable, and future-ready water system for the community. By replacing aging infrastructure that has exceeded its useful life, the city will significantly reduce system failures, prevent boil water notices, and restore public confidence in the reliability of essential services.
Background Information:
The city’s existing water treatment plant has exceeded its useful life and is no longer reliable. Aging equipment and system failures have led to repeated service disruptions, including boil water notices for residents. These incidents undermine public confidence and place an ongoing operational strain on staff and resources. In addition to reliability concerns, the facility is undersized for current demand. Since the plant was constructed in 1988, the community’s population has nearly doubled. The system was not designed to accommodate this level of growth, resulting in capacity limitations that restrict future development and place stress on existing infrastructure.
