City of Cokato School Watermain Extension

Funding Requested: $2,200,000

Total Project Cost: $2,900,000

Project Summary:

Construct roughly 10,000 linear feet of 16” and 12” watermain to tie the Dassel Cokato High School and Middle School campus to the City of Cokato City water system in order to provide safe palatable drink water to the students and faculty, support the school fire suppression system, and provide capacity for economic growth between the City of Cokato.

Background Information:

The Dassel-Cokato School was built in early 1970s. At the time of construction, the wastewater was tied into the City of Cokato’s system, but the school’s palatable drinking water was supplied by a well on site. Since initial construction, multiple building additions have been added to include a middle school, performing arts center, and recreation center. The main school building’s water supply is currently served by a single well. The current water treatment system for the school campus is reaching end of its serviceable life. Although it has been well maintained parts of the system depend on 50-year old technology and components. Rather than replace the existing system it is more cost effective to tie in the City of Cokato’s water system. This improves the safety of the students and reduce the risk of system failure. It also allows the school to leverage the expertise and training of the Cokato engineering staff to ensure all state and federal standards are met for palatable drinking water. This project provides palatable drinking water and water for fire suppression. It does NOT support the requirement for making ice in the hockey arena or watering the recreation fields.
